Though APERI ANIMAM’s specialty is in early music performance, the ensemble is comprised of professionally-trained vocalists who are well-versed in other musical periods and choral styles. If you are interested in hiring us to perform at your upcoming event, please inquire below with event-specific details, preferred repertoire, and a potential budget. If you are uncertain of specific repertoire, our Conductor will work with you one-on-one to devise a set of music specific to your event.

Russ Bickerstaff on L’Orfeo, The Small Stage, Milwaukee, WI, 2022

“The Milwaukee Opera Theatre and Aperi Animam present a serene vision of love with its production of Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo. The tale of Orpheus and Eurydice resonates through the church…The epic concerns of gods and humans alike are cast against an unwaveringly minimalist soundscape in the cozily cavernous confines of the church across the street and down the block from Milwaukee’s Central Library.(Full review)

“It made me tingle. I'm tingling!”

Jim Sampson on Advent Lessons & Carols, bass–baritone, Milwaukee, WI, 2020

“Bravissimi! How thrilling it has been to hear the good news and the good music of this traditional Advent service. With unobtrusive direction and unwavering intonation five singers with expert playing of a fabulous organist have yielded a grand and glorious event to usher in this holy season.

That Milwaukee has Aperi Animam in its midst for all seasons is something for which to be grateful—and to attend its concerts year round!”

John Schneider on Utterance, Shepherd Express, Milwaukee, WI, 2019

“That the…singers maintained perfect pitch, timbre, phrasing and dynamics in every moment with no conductor seemed to me a model for living. And what singing! Just as remarkably, I felt I’d gotten to know each of them individually by the end…because they sang with understanding.” (Full review)

Gwendolyn Rice, independent reviewer, Milwaukee, WI 2019

“From the exquisite ten-member, early music ensemble APERI ANIMAM, holy chords emerge, breathy, delicate and perfectly in sync, like notes from a finely tuned organ…The Renaissance-era liturgical music is APERI ANIMAM’s sweet spot — it’s what they do. Positioned in a circle facing inwards, the vocalists are hyper-attuned to each other, both musically and physically, their tones blending so well that it’s hard to pick out individual voices, even when the artists are positioned directly in front of you.” (Full review)

Brendan Fox, Urban Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI 2019

“It’s hard to overstate the sheer technical accomplishment of the combined ensemble, both as a whole and as individual parts. They managed the stylistic rollercoaster of alternating past and present with ease… they confidently executed all manner of weaving lines, dissonant clusters, and even quarter-tones, from memory.” (Full review)

Russ Bickerstaff, The Small Stage, Milwaukee, WI 2019

“The vocals are sung in graceful intensity.” (Full review)

Peter Jacobi, The Herald Times, Bloomington, IN, 2019

“…The singers, led by baritone Daniel Koplitz, mastered melismatic song with absolute integrity and purity, sticking resolutely to individual meters and allowing the individuality of their voices to be heard, even while not allowing those individualities to escape the choral whole. Quite a feat.

One was left, as the musicians intended, with a blend of sadness for feelings that divide and for hope that greater love may ultimately govern all humankind.”

Charles Grosz, Early Music Now, 2019

“Over the past two years, I have watched APERI ANIMAM grow from an advanced student group into a professional ensemble, which this past season has performed at several of Early Music Now’s events. APERI ANIMAM is a promising and creative ensemble, and a wonderful asset to Milwaukee’s early music scene.”

Marisa Gatti-Taylor, early music enthusiast, 2019

“If by some divine intervention, the pipes of a grand organ were to become human, they would sound like Aperi Animam. This group's gusto in interpreting challenging and hitherto relatively unknown pieces of music brings their selections to the public and makes them vibrantly relevant. A performance by Aperi Animam is a thrilling experience.”

Amazing! I was blown away by the gorgeous blending of clear voices with impeccable precision!”

“Pure perfection. It’s great to see young talent taking old and sacred music so seriously and enthusiastically.”
